Montagne-Saint-Émilion is one of the 'satellite' appellations just north of Saint-Émilion on Bordeaux's Right Bank, where the same Merlot-led wines come at a much friendlier price. This 2016 is from an outstanding Bordeaux vintage and now drinking beautifully, with the bottle age already done for you.

The nose is beautifully evolved, offering fresh red plum and stewed fruit alongside savoury hints of leather and forest floor. The palate is generous and mouthfilling, supported by elegant, delicate tannins.

Serve with: roast lamb, beef, duck or mushroom dishes. Open half an hour before serving.
